The countdown to Sept. 1 has begun
As the long, hot summer days fade into the shorter, cooler days of fall, waterfowl hunters everywhere are itchy, restless and wishful. With news of strong duck numbers this season, the word anticipation is an understatement for most duck hunters. Meanwhile, the birds they pursue are beginning to receive those innate signals that colder months are on their way, building up fat reserves and getting their feathers ready for the long journey ahead. First the teal, then the gadwall and wigeon, all the way to the burly mallards, they will fly. Don't miss a beat this season. The First Flight-Opening Day Web site will put you right in the thick of it as you track down birds on the flyways. It's the ultimate waterfowl hunters' resource on the Web.
Ducks Unlimited will be right there with you all season long. The concept behind the Opening Day Web site is simple: provide waterfowl hunters with an up-to-date, catch-all online resource for waterfowl hunters. You'll have gear recommendations, migration reports, expert tips and tactics and field reports from across the country—all with a simple click of the mouse!
So head over to openingday.ducks.org, bookmark the page, check out the preview video and sign up for a Sept. 1 reminder!
The DU Migration Map will allow hunters to analyze the migratory patterns and paths of wintering waterfowl. Read about your fellow hunters' experiences and add your own from your favorite hunting spots. You'll also be able to view field reports from Avery Pro-Staff, hunting conditions and weather forecasts across the country. And the map will be getting a facelift for Sept. 1, with improved functionality and other great new features, so keep an eye on the skies and on www.ducks.org/migrationmap this season!
Just like last year, Opening Day-First Flight will feature video tips from hunting industry experts. But one thing we've realized is that some of our best hunting tips and waterfowling footage comes from you, our supporters. So we'll be launching a brand-new video contest in September! So when you head to the blind this fall, don't forget to pack your video camera. Send us your best footage from the season and enter to win great prizes from DU and its proud sponsors and partners! More details to come Sept. 1.
Supplied by expert waterfowl biologists, waterfowl hunters, dog trainers, gunsmiths and even photographers, First Flight-Opening Day will not be short on insightful waterfowl-hunting articles, whatever your interest.
