RICHMOND, Va., June 17, 2011 – During its annual convention recently in Quebec City, Ducks Unlimited Inc. elected Julian T. Ottley of Richmond to its national board of directors.
"Julian has a strong record as a committed conservationist and has been an active DU supporter for many years. His conservation knowledge and leadership experience make him a natural fit for this position," said John Newman, DU president. "We're proud to have him on our board of directors, and look forward to the work we'll do together."
Ottley is president of Ottley Properties, a real-estate brokerage firm based in Richmond, and is the second generation of DU board members in his family. His father, Dudley Ottley of Atlanta, Ga., also served on the board.
"This is more than an honor. It's an opportunity to give something back by helping conserve wetlands and waterfowl across North America," Julian Ottley said. "In my years with Ducks Unlimited, I've seen first-hand how effective DU is at conserving habitat. It's great to be able to personally help DU on a national scale."
Ottley has been involved with Ducks Unlimited since joining DU's youth program, Greenwings, in 1972. He's been an active DU volunteer since 1999, and in 2010, was named one of DU's top ten state chairmen in the nation. In addition to serving as Virginia's state chairman, Ottley has held numerous volunteer positions, including area chairman, district chairman, state campaign chairman and major donor chairman.
Ducks Unlimited is the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to conserving North America's waterfowl habitats. DU is governed by a volunteer board of directors and senior officers.
"As a member of DU's board of directors, Julian will help guide Ducks Unlimited in our future conservation work. It's a significant commitment, and I know he'll bring considerable talent to the team," said Newman.
Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 12 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow, and forever.
