DU President George Dunklin Jr. was the featured guest speaker at the Producers Rice Mill Inc. annual meeting in November.
Dunklin commented that of all his introductions made during speeches across the country, coming home to be introduced to local farmers, friends and neighbors was his favorite.
Keith Glover, president and general manager of Producers Rice Mill, introduced Dunklin, saying his first duck hunt was with Dunklin at his 5 Oaks Lodge outside of Stuttgart.
“I have been hooked ever since,” Glover said. “Ducks Unlimited couldn’t have picked a better person in my opinion.”
Dunklin spoke of his family, from whom he learned to love conservation, farming and duck hunting. He told the crowd that Ducks Unlimited is here to help the rice farmer in his or her mission of conservation.
More than 400 members and guests were in attendance for Dunklin’s speech at the Grand Prairie Center.
During a meeting the following day, Dunklin and DU Southern Region conservation staff Craig Hilburn and Scott Manley met with conservation leaders in the Arkansas
rice industry to begin charting a course for the groups to work together more closely going forward. A key focus will be the Arkansas State Water Plan and ensuring there are ample water resources in the future for rice production and waterfowl management.
