Governor Mike Beebe has named DU volunteer Steve Cook of Malvern, Akansas as the newest commissioner of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The commission plays a central role in the state's conservation of fish and wildlife. 

Cook has been involved with Ducks Unlimited for more than 30 years, serving previously as the Arkansas state chairman and as a member of DU's Conservation Programs Committee. Currently, he is a regional vice-president for the national organization. 

"Steve was imbued with a philosophy of conservation as a young man, and has never wavered from his dedication to that cause," Governor Beebe said. "I am confident that the will work to protect fish and wildlife and their habitats for both current and future generations."

Ducks Unlimited applauds Cook's appointment and is pleased to the see another one of its members is joining the commission. Ducks Unlimited's first vice president, George Dunklin, Jr. has been on the commission since 2005 and is currently serving as its Chairman. 

Arkansas provides vital wintering and migration habitat for millions of waterfowl annually, and as part of the Mississippi Alluvial Valley is a priority for Ducks Unlimited. "To have two Ducks Unlimited Board members serving on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission speaks highly of the conservation ethic found in our volunteers and members," said Dr. Curtis Hopkins, DU director for the Southern Region.
