The Clean Water, Lands & Outdoor Heritage Amendment will not be on the November 6, 2012 ballot in North Dakota. The initiated measure would have dedicated a small portion of the state’s oil and gas taxes for conservation.

The North Dakota Attorney General and Secretary of State determined that a group of paid signature gatherers had submitted fraudulently obtained signatures. Enough signatures were found to be in question that the measure was not approved for November. The Attorney General  pointed out at a news conference last week DU and other sponsors of the measure are victims of this fraud and do not have any liability in this matter. The sponsoring group will review its options and hopes to proceed in some way with the goals of the measure.

This effort is of utmost importance to DU and its mission. Your support to date has been phenomenal and appreciated and will continue to be needed as we regroup and chart a new course of action.
