The annual Kansas Ducks Unlimited State Convention was held recently in Hutchinson and volunteers went above and beyond to help further DU’s public policy efforts.

A letter addressed to all four of Kansas’ congressional representatives and two senators was signed by 66 convention attendees who encouraged their elected leaders to pass a five-year farm bill in 2013. The letter focused on DU’s top three priorities: re-coupling conservation compliance with crop insurance, a national Sodsaver program and conservation program funding.

Rep. Kevin Yoder and Sens. Pat Roberts and Jerry Moran hosted a town hall meeting in Olathe, Kan., two days after the convention. DU volunteer and major sponsor Bruce Wanamaker, of Overland Park, Kan., attended the town hall and presented copies of the letter to the elected officials. He was also able to personally visit with Rep. Yoder.

“As a DU member for more than 40 years, I am very committed to making sure there are abundant wetlands and ducks for future generations,” Wanamaker said. “I was delighted to sign my name to the letter and to deliver these important farm bill messages to our elected officials on behalf of the other DU volunteers.”

You can call your own legislators to tell them the importance of passing a comprehensive five-year farm bill at (202) 224-3121.
