This week, Ducks Unlimited's Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office will participate in Great Lakes Week to discuss the conservation issues and challenges the region is facing. This year's event will take place in Detroit, Michigan
, where representatives of the U.S. and Canadian governments meet with a broad coalition of public and private groups to discuss efforts to implement solutions for the lakes' most pressing problems. Various organizations also use Great Lakes Week as an opportunity hold meetings and conferences, making it one of the most wide-ranging Great Lakes summits.
Several Ducks Unlimited staff members from the Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office will participate in speaking engagements and briefings throughout the week. DU Director of Public Policy for GLARO Gildo Tori will deliver remarks at the meeting of the Great Lakes Commission and will lead a Farm Bill
workshop at the Healing Our Waters Conference. DU Director of Conservation Russ Terry and DU Manager of Conservation Jason Hill will speak during the Areas of Concern annual meeting.
"Great Lakes Week is a great opportunity for Ducks Unlimited to reach a large audience of government officials and private groups," Tori said. "This event provides us with a great platform to educate these organizations on important issues facing waterfowl conservation
Formal speaking engagements are only one part of DU's participation in Great Lakes Week. DU will lead a wetland restoration success tour in conjunction with the Healing Our Waters Conference. Attendees will visit three local restoration sites to learn more about restoration and how the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative has impacted conservation in its first years. DU will also be represented at poster sessions, receptions and town hall meetings.
