Partnering with federal programs is an effective way to conserve millions of acres of wildlife habitat. Federal programs have provided millions of dollars while fostering thousands of partnerships to implement conservation projects throughout North America. DU’s office in Washington D.C. exists to promote these programs and other wildlife-friendly legislation. In an effort to maintain and bolster wildlife-friendly programs, our office works with federal agencies such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, as well as the White House, members of Congress and other conservation organizations.
DU’s Public Policy Issues
Each year Congress makes important decisions about wildlife habitat conservation programs that directly impact the long-term health of waterfowl populations. Key federal programs that have an impact on wetlands and waterfowl habitat include:

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Programs
North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA)
North American Waterfowl Management Plan (NAWMP)
Reauthorization of the Neotropical Migratory Bird Act (NMBCA)
