Ducks Unlimited had a presence at the Republican and Democratic National Conventions in July.
Ducks Unlimited took part in the Stars and Stripes shoot July 19 in Ohio during the Republican convention, sponsored by the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation and the National Rifle Association. The event was attended by 120 sportsmen and women, recreational shooters and other conservationists at the Hill'n Dale Club in Medina, Ohio. The shoot was an opportunity to interact with members of Congress, including Reps. Rob Wittman (VA) and Bob Latta (OH). Also in attendance were Reps. Rob Bishop (UT), chair of the House Natural Resources Committee and Bill Huizenga (MI) and Governor Terry Branstad (IA). The team consisted of DU Area Chair Steve Gray; Chris Nook of HuntDucks.org; Gildo Tori, DU director of public policy; Fred Zink of Zink Calls/Avian X Decoys; and Ohio State Rep. Joe Uecker. The Ducks Unlimited Team took high honors, with Fred Zink earning first place, Chris Nook second and Gildo Tori fourth.
During the Democratic convention July 26 in Philadelphia, DU took part in a luncheon sponsored by the Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation. The event, "Advancing our Nation's Hunting and Fishing Heritage," allowed attendees the chance to mingle with influential Democratic conservation leaders and others instrumental in pushing interests for America's sportsmen and women across the nation. Dan Wrinn, national director of governmental affairs, and Whitney Tawney, senior water policy advisor, attended for DU.
