Children 16 and under are invited to join Ducks Unlimited for a free youth waterfowl hunting workshop Friday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop will be held at the DU office at 2525 River Road in Bismarck. Shooting training will follow the workshop for kids 9 and older and a free lunch will be provided.
"We want to teach kids how to safely hunt waterfowl and help them learn techniques to be successful in the field," said Dane Buysse, DU conservation specialist and volunteer workshop instructor. "If we don’t inform the next generation about the tradition of hunting and value of our natural resources who will? This is a great opportunity to share with others what we love and enjoy about the waterfowl hunting experience."
Activities include information on duck identification, decoy spreads, hunting gear, basic firearm safety, duck calling and retriever training. The first 20 participants (ages 9-16) to register can participate in shooting training at Capital City Sporting Clays Range (12951 71st Ave. NE, Bismarck). There will be two sessions, 1:30-3:00 and 3:00-5:00. The shooting training will include safe gun handling tips and a parent or guardian must accompany children at the shooting range.
Sign-in for the workshop begins at 8:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required for the shooting training. To sign up, contact Jennifer Kross at (701) 202-8896 or firstname.lastname@example.org
The workshop is sponsored by Ducks Unlimited and the North Dakota Game and Fish.
