HELENA, Mont. March 11, 2019 - Whats good for the moose is good for the gander. The proceeds of this years Ducks Unlimited Shiras moose auction will contribute $37,000 for Montanas moose habitat conservation initiative, which also benefits ducks and other wildlife. The winning bid was the second highest since Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks began allowing organizations, like DU, to host the auctions.

This was an exciting auction, said Barry Allen, Ducks Unlimited regional director for Montana. We are thrilled to be able to contribute this amount to Montana conservation.

Ducks Unlimited won the right to auction off the license from MFWP. The Helena DU chapter hosts the event as a draw to its yearly fundraising dinner. Montana Ducks Unlimited is reimbursed for auction advertising expenses.

Since 1984, DU has conserved almost 259,000 acres in Montana, the nations third largest waterfowl producer. Ducks Unlimited has invested almost $28 million in this conservation work guided by six Montana staff members who are widely recognized for their knowledge of wetland habitat conservation. We work with farmers and ranchers to find conservation solutions that are right for their operations. DU also partners with Montana and federal fish and wildlife agencies to restore and protect habitat that will enhance public hunting by attracting more wildlife.

Ducks Unlimited Inc. is the worlds largest non-profit organization dedicated to conserving North America's continually disappearing waterfowl habitats. Established in 1937, Ducks Unlimited has conserved more than 14 million acres thanks to contributions from more than a million supporters across the continent. Guided by science and dedicated to program efficiency, DU works toward the vision of wetlands sufficient to fill the skies with waterfowl today, tomorrow and forever.
