MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – March 30, 2017 – A sold-out crowd of nearly 300 people attended the 2017 Milwaukee Downtown Ducks Unlimited Banquet on March 21, which through the generosity of donors and corporate sponsors netted $100,000 for wetland and waterfowl conservation.

"Thanks to the engagement of business leaders, this has become the premiere event for sporting conservationists in Wisconsin," said Steve Kass, Ducks Unlimited director of development for Wisconsin.

The banquet at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee featured cocktails, raffles, auctions and door prizes. The Milwaukee Downtown chapter is led by Glenn Goergen, chairman of the board, and BJ Westfahl, Milwaukee Downtown chairman.

"The success of this event is due 100 percent to the volunteer leadership provided by our local board," Kass said.

The 61st annual event was presented by Doral Corporation, a full service industrial contractor supporting the manufacturing, industrial, food and beverage markets. Nine other underwriters supported the event: Accunet Mortgage, Actuant, Oarsman Capital, Boucher Automotive Group, Deloitte, Milford Hills Hunt Club, Valuation Research Corporation, We Energies Foundation and WFA Staffing Group.

Proceeds support Ducks Unlimited’s Great Lakes Initiative. Cool water, coastal wetlands, and an appreciation for the outdoors define Ducks Unlimited's Great Lakes Initiative area. The coastline of the five Great Lakes exceeds 10,000 miles and encircles approximately 20 percent of the world's fresh water. Glaciers created a diversity of wetlands, shallow lakes, coastal estuaries, and river flowages. Through the Great Lakes Initiative, DU will address these habitat types and provide abundant resources for significant numbers of breeding, migrating, and wintering waterfowl.

Celebrating its 80th anniversary, Ducks Unlimited is the leader in wetlands and waterfowl conservation. Ducks Unlimited has more than 35,000 members in Wisconsin, and has invested more than $27 million to protect, restore or enhance 114,466 acres of habitat.
