MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin – April 13, 2018 – A sold-out crowd of more than 275 people attended the 2018 Milwaukee Downtown Ducks Unlimited Banquet on March 20, which through the generosity of donors and corporate sponsors raised $100,000 for wetland and waterfowl conservation.
The banquet at the Wisconsin Club in Milwaukee featured cocktails, raffles, auctions and door prizes. The Milwaukee Downtown Chapter is led by Glenn Goergen, chairman of the board, and BJ Westfahl, Milwaukee Downtown chairman.
“We are thrilled with the commitment of the business leaders and community in their support of conservation and Ducks Unlimited,” Westfahl said. “The committee has excelled at fostering these relationships and preparing an event second to none.”
The 62nd annual event was presented by Doral Corporation, a full service industrial contractor supporting the manufacturing, industrial, food and beverage markets. Several other underwriters supported the event including: Balestrieri Environmental and Development, Boucher Automotive Group, Deloitte, Oarsman Capital, von Briesen & Roper and Valuation Research Corporation.
Numerous donors and supporters, including WE Energies Foundation, boosted DU’s ability to deliver habitat programs in its Great Lakes Initiative. The coastline of the five Great Lakes exceeds 10,000 miles and encircles approximately 20 percent of the world's fresh water. Glaciers created a diversity of wetlands, shallow lakes, coastal estuaries and river flowages. Through the Great Lakes Initiative, DU addresses these habitat types and provides abundant resources for significant numbers of breeding, migrating, and wintering waterfowl.
Ducks Unlimited is the leader in wetlands conservation in Wisconsin and across the country. Wetlands are nature’s filtration system, removing pollutants from roadways and farm fields before it enters streams and rivers. They leave our waterways cleaner for drinking and recreation.
Ducks Unlimited has more than 35,000 members in Wisconsin, and has invested more than $29 million to protect, restore or enhance more than 116,000 acres of habitat. Learn more about Ducks Unlimited in Wisconsin at www.ducks.org/wisconsin.
