MILLBROOK, New York Oct. 6, 2017 The Dutchess County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited in New York awarded its inaugural Wetlands Remediation Award to Cricket Valley Energy.

The award is presented to an organization or person who makes a significant contribution to restoring or enhancing wetland habitat in Dutchess County.

Cricket Valley Energy was chosen for its cleanup of a toxic site in Dover, New York, as part of the Cricket Valley Energy Center, an 1,100-megawatt, natural gas-fired power plant now under construction on an industrially-zoned site off Route 22. The 193-acre property has existing energy infrastructure, including electric power lines and a natural gas pipeline, as well as a substantial tree buffer that will minimize visual and sound impacts.

That site was a brownfield, said Stancy DuHamel, Dutchess County Chapter founder and member. They cleaned it up. Not only is this the best local example of wetlands remediation - its great for the habitat - but its also an example of the actions companies are taking worldwide because people have recognized the value of wetlands, in part because of the outreach work of Ducks Unlimited.

The award will be given in the future when appropriate moving forward.

Cricket Valley Energy Center is honored to receive the Wetlands Remediation Award, said Scott Curry, project manager. Thank you for your recognition of the hard work we have done to ensure our project reflects the Dover communitys commitment to low-impact and environmentally responsible design. Cricket Valley is proud to be among one of the most water efficient power generation plants in the country, and is committed to restoring and preserving the nearly 80 acres of wetlands on our site.

The award was presented Sept. 30 during the fifth annual Great Swamp Shoot &Conservation Program at Tamarack Preserve in Millbrook, presented by the Dutchess County Chapter.
