The San Francisco Bay Joint Venture recently honored Dr. Fritz Reid with its Holly Andre Award for leadership. Reid is director of conservation programs at DU's Western Regional Office in Sacramento, California. This is only the fourth time this award has been presented.

"This award means a lot, considering the great conservation accomplishments in the Bay Area over the past 12 years," Reid said. "But it's extra special to me because I worked so closely with Holly during her career with DU."

Holly was DU's first director of conservation policy in the Western Region. She was instrumental in helping start the San Francisco Bay Joint Venture and was one of its founding board members and chairs. She passed away in 2001.

The San Francisco Bay Joint Venture's management board consists of 26 agencies and private organizations. Its mission is to protect, restore, and enhance wetlands, uplands, and riparian habitat within and around the bay. San Francisco Bay has historically been one of the most important western wintering grounds for scaup, scoters, and canvasbacks. DU has played a vital role in aiding scientific inquiry and wetland restoration in the San Francisco Bay area.
