Dunklin Nominated for Budweiser Conservation Award

Cast your vote for a worthy candidate and the ducks

Budweiser, the official beer of Ducks Unlimited, and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation have named Ducks Unlimited volunteer leader George Dunklin Jr. of Stuttgart, Arkansas, one of four candidates for the prestigious 2009 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year award. Dunklin, a member of Ducks Unlimited’s President’s Council, serves as chairman of the DU conservation programs committee, is a member of the Wetlands America Trust board of trustees, and is a member of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.

George is an Arkansas rice farmer and also has a company, Five Oaks Wildlife Services, which provides science-based assistance in waterfowl management to private landowners, restoring countless acres of wetlands, consulting on state and federal projects, and conducting workshops to the betterment of wildlife populations.

The winner of the 14th annual Budweiser Conservationist of the Year award will be selected by the public in a national contest in which everyone is encouraged to vote. The top choice selects a conservation organization to receive a $50,000 grant from Budweiser and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to support their priority conservation projects; the three runners-up will be given the opportunity to choose a conservation organization to receive a $5,000 grant. The winner will be announced during the 2009 SHOT Show in Orlando, Florida.

To cast your vote, visit www.budweiser.com. Click on Budweiser, scroll to “Great Outdoors,” and find Dunklin’s biography under “Vote for Conservationist of the Year.” Votes can also be submitted by listing the name and address of the candidate you are supporting on a 3X5 card and mailing the card to: 2009 Budweiser Conservationist of the Year, P.O. Box 750088, El Paso, TX 88575-0088. Your must be at least 21 years of age to vote. Voting ends November 30.

George addresses the Greenwing Campers.

George represents DU membership and the ducks admirably and is certainly a deserving candidate for the Budweiser Conservationist of the Year award.

He is as knowledgeable a lay person about wetland and waterfowl biology as any I know. He is also passionate about introducing youth to wetlands conservation and waterfowl hunting. George has been gracious enough to host the Arkansas Greenwing Conservation Camp at his 5 Oaks Hunting Lodge for the last 16 years. Most importantly, at least for me, he is a good friend.

Please take the time and cast a vote for George this fall.
