Ducks Unlimited regional biologist Tim Willis and engineer Billy Hill recently met with Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) staff to discuss replacing the water-management infrastructure on Swan Creek Wildlife Management Area (WMA) near Decatur, Alabama.

The original water-control structure was built in the 1990s and was one of the first collaborative projects between DU and the DCNR. Old corrugated metal pipe will be replaced with concrete pipe, allowing DCNR staff to properly manage this WMA's impoundments for waterfowl. DU, the DCNR, and the Tennessee Valley Authority are currently developing restoration plans for this project. The DCNR is seeking additional assistance from Limestone County and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff from nearby Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.
