Alazan Bayou WMA
Moist-Soil Management Area

Purpose: To restore 325 acres of moist-soil habitat on Alazan Bayou WMA through construction of levees, installation of water control structures and a water distribution system. The land was formerly bottomland hardwood habitat that was converted to agriculture. Shallow water cells will be managed for production of moist-soil vegetation that provides valuable food resources for wintering waterfowl. This project is managed by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to maintain high quality wetland habitat for wintering waterfowl, while providing additional hunting opportunities.
