My Time at the Top
July-07
I became involved with DU 1990 and along with my brother-in-law Eric Rose came to inherit the Ocean State Sponsors Dinner. Together we’ve made a good team and raised significant dollars for the ducks; however stepping into the role as your state chairman gave me pause. What were
my plans, how would I fulfill the goals of Ducks Unlimited?? Will I live up to the standards set by Eric Rose, Jim Tappero and Jim Chadwick?
Looking back I did not accomplish anything earth shattering; however I did get to meet many of the national staff and RI members. These experiences impressed me with the shared enthusiasm and caliber of the DU organization I've come to embrace. We did put in place a state plan. I attended all the state dinners for the first time and helped recruit a few more major donors. I was able to see the Barrington Walker Farm project from beginning to end, and to welcome in some new chapter chairs. All in all it’s been amazing to find and meet so many people of different backgrounds sharing the same passion and goals.
DU committees and volunteers are what have and what will continue to make Ducks Unlimited prosper. I hope to see all of you (and hope you bring a friend) at the state meeting on August 9th at the Narragansett Gun Club. We will be welcoming in our new state chairman Dr. Stuart Demirs who has been an active DU sponsor and volunteer for many years with the South Shore Chapter.
So I exit, one person who has shared the passion, volunteered, has been honored by this position and been humbled by the rewarding experiences of the last two years. I thank you all for your support, and a special thanks to Eric Rose for guidance and help he has provided me.
Do it for the Ducks and share in the passion!
