Don and Lois Rogert Land Donation

Don and Lois Rogert of Omaha, Nebraska have been supporters of Ducks Unlimited for a long time. Don, an avid waterfowler, and his wife Lois have attended many DU banquets over the years and have instilled into their children and grandchildren a love of the outdoors and support for wildlife conservation. Their lifelong support of DU is exemplified by their decision to gift a property to DU. The 170-acre Platte River property near North Bend, Nebraska is worth a substantial sum. Landowners who donate property to DU can realize significant tax benefits, but that is only part of the reason why the Rogerts decided to make this generous gift. Ducks Unlimited’s conservation program in Nebraska will greatly benefit from this gift and that was very important to Don and Lois. The property has significant conservation value and DU will ensure these values are protected in perpetuity by placing a conservation easement on the tract. Ultimately, the property will be sold to a conservation buyer and the proceeds from the sale will be used by DU to support other conservation efforts on the Platte River. According to DU biologist Jonas Davis, the property has significant values to waterfowl. “The property contains ½ mile of river frontage along the Platte, including an island in the river, and has the opportunity to restore additional wetlands” said Davis. The Platte River provides important migration and wintering habitat for waterfowl. Conservation easements and habitat restoration work are tools used by DU to protect this valuable resource and ensure adequate habitat is available for waterfowl both today and in the future. Gifts of land or other property are a wonderful way for landowners like the Rogerts to support Ducks Unlimited.
