Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge Project Completed

In January, 2009, DU completed the Nathan’s Lake project on the Boyer Chute National Wildlife Refuge near Blair, Nebraska.  The project restored over 20 acres of wetland habitat on the refuge north of Omaha.  DU Engineer Mitch Messmer designed the project which included the installation of a water diversion structure and pipeline from a nearby canal.  The pipeline will allow refuge managers to divert water from the canal into refuge wetlands, restoring habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife species.  A levee and water control structure was also constructed as part of the project.  The $90,000 project was funded largely through a grant from the North American Wetlands Conservation Council.  DU and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service provided additional financial assistance towards this effort.

This tract is also called the “Clausen Property” and is a Ducks Unlimited Greenwing Legacy project.  The dedication of the Greenwing Legacy project is scheduled for August 29th, 2009.
