How does this program differ from that offered by the North Dakota Farmers Union?
Like the NDFU carbon credits, Ducks Unlimited’s program is based on accepted Exchange Soil Offset (XSO) rates and the value of carbon credits sold on the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). Both DU and the NDFU charge a 10% aggregators fee to help cover program costs. However, DU provides a large, up-front payment to the landowner to compensate them for avoided loss of carbon associated with a perpetual easement. The NDFU provides much smaller, annual payments to landowners who enroll in short-term agreements associated with no-till, grass seeding, and range management.
