Ducks Unlimited Flyways

Data Description:

Abstract:  Ducks Unlimited (DU) flyways display county assignments to flyway regions in CONSERV – DU’s Oracle based Habitat Project tracking system.  The counties have been merged based on the flyway to create boundary polygons.  Most counties are assigned to a flyway based on the state locations.  The counties in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico were divided between the Pacific and Central flyway.  The continental divide was used initially as the dividing line and additional edits were applied with data from a 1978 US Department of interior document called Average Harvest of Each Duck Species in States and Counties during 1966-1975 Hunting Seasons (Carney, Sorensen, and Martin) from DU Great Plain Regional Office.  Four flyways were created in North America, Atlantic Flyway, Central Flyway, Mississippi Flyway, and Pacific Flyway.
