Clark’s Marsh (Iosco County)

Clark’s Marsh is a complex of three emergent wetland basins totaling 65 acres that were developed decades ago by beaver. These wetlands are located in the floodplain of the Au Sable River, three miles from Lake Huron. Unfortunately, when beaver vacated the area their dams deteriorated to the point where they were expected to fail at any time. Ducks Unlimited provided cost-share assistance to the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to replace four beaver dams with earthen berms and install three water control structures. This new infrastructure allows the USFS to manage water levels and aquatic vegetation in order to maintain productive wetland habitat over the long-term.
