Anderson Project

Ducks Unlimited will acquire the Anderson Property from The Nature Conservancy in 2009. The property is located along the Platte River west of Kearny, Nebraska. The 230-acre tract contains significant opportunities to restore wetland habitat within one mile of the Platte River. DU engineers have already completed a wetland restoration plan for the site and will implement restoration activities during 2009. DU major donors have provided the funds needed to complete the purchase of the property. As part of DU’s “revolving lands strategy”, DU will restore habitat on the tract, protect the habitat with a permanent conservation easement, then sell the property to a conservation minded buyer. This acquisition represents DU’s first “revolving lands property” on the Platte River in Nebraska. Funding to complete the habitat restoration work has been provided by the North American Wetlands Conservation Council, DU, Nebraska Environmental Trust and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
