Ten Mile Pond Conservation Area
Wetland Acquisition and Development

Purpose: This project restored wetland habitat and functions to 800 acres of agricultural land at the Ten Mile Pond Conservation Area. The development included construction of 5 wetland pools with independent water control capabilities and a supporting water distribution system. This wetland project significantly added to the wetland management capability of this 3,882-acre Conservation Area in southeast Missouri. The restoration site was designated as "priority wintering habitat" in the North American Waterfowl Management Plan.

The Ten Mile Pond Conservation Area is managed by the Missouri Department of Conservation. Duck and goose hunting and viewing waterfowl are the most popular outdoor activities on the area. For more information regarding the Ten Mile Pond Conservation Area go to the Missouri Department of Conservation's "Conservation Atlas" at http://www.mdc.state.mo.us/atlas/ and type in the area name.
