Wister WMA
Wetlands Enhancement

Purpose: To enhance 270 acres of moist-soil and green-tree habitats by installation of a cross-levee and permanent pump station. The installation of the cross-levee will create more desirable water depths for waterfowl. And the addition of the permanent pump station will allow the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife to better manage the moist-soil units.

Ducks Unlimited provided design and engineering services for the project. Moist-soil habitat will complement existing green-tree habitats on Wister WMA, thus improving the attractiveness of the region for waterfowl.

Location: Approximately 8 miles southeast of Wister, OK (LeFlore Co).

Acres Impacted: 270 acres of wetlands.

Habitat Type: Moist-soil wetlands and green-tree reservoirs.

Partners: Ducks Unlimited, Inc.
Oklahoma Department of Wildlife
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
