J. MORGAN FUTCH GAME LANDS
Restoration Project

Purpose: To develop high quality wintering waterfowl habitat from prior-converted agricultural fields through construction of 18,000' of new interior levees, installation of 25 water control structures, 6 pipe structures, one 12" deep well and installation of two 24" relift pumps. Swans, Canada geese, mallards, black ducks, blue-winged teal, green-winged teal, ring-necked ducks, wood ducks, wading birds and shorebirds will all benefit from this project. The area will be managed by North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission to provide quality wetlands habitat for wintering waterfowl and additional hunting opportunities for waterfowlers.    

Location: The project is located in Tyrell County approximately 4.5 miles west of the Alligator River and 7 miles east of Columbia, NC.

Habitat Types: Moist-soil Vegetation
Flooded Agricultural Crops
Semi-permanent ponds for submersed aquatics
Flooded bottomland hardwood timber
