"Be a Sponsor - Save an Acre"
About 10% of Missouri’s Ducks Unlimited members answer the call to become a sponsor. While the contribution of every Ducks Unlimited member is important, some are crucial. It costs DU about $250 to restore one acre of wetland habitat. By becoming a DU sponsor, your annual contribution has helped DU and its’ partners to conserve an acre. What a great gift for future generations to enjoy!
Since Ducks Unlimited’s 1937 fledgling year, you have helped DU and its’ partners to conserve over 11 million acres throughout North America, an astonishing accomplishment! The Missouri DU conservation record is also extraordinary. Since 1985, around 100,000 acres of habitat have been conserved with DU expenditures, on Missouri projects, totaling nearly $8 million dollars!

GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY WETLANDS INITIATIVE – HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
Achievements notwithstanding, Missouri’s wetland and waterfowl biologist face an array of challenges at the Conservation Areas (CAs) that were among the State’s earliest strongholds. Fountain Grove and Duck Creek CAs are now more than 50 years old, while Schell-Osage and Montrose CAs are approaching their 50th Anniversary. Ted Shanks CA is experiencing significant habitat challenges.
The original working parts, including levees, water control structures, canals, and pumps, are simply past their life expectancy. In addition, extreme landscape changes, including the effects of flooding along the Mississippi River and above Truman Dam, have had unforeseen and devastating effects on certain areas. Moreover, we know much more about the science of wetland restoration and management today than when these historical areas were developed. Engineering, design, and construction capabilities have vastly improved. Major planning, on-the-ground effort, and funding, are necessary to revive the wetland management and function of these historical areas, and their renovation is the focus of the Golden Anniversary Wetlands Initiative.
Objectives
- Develop and implement plans to restore the State’s historical wetland conservation areas.
- Incorporate 21st Century wetland and engineering science into restoration approaches.
- Assemble broad and diverse partnerships to fund these efforts.
- Implement the Initiative over the next decade, through year 2015.

Sponsor Print and Stamp
“Blue-Winged Teal at Fountain Grove”, by
Sarah Williams, represents the first in a series of 5 waterfowl prints with matching stamps. Each print will celebrate the unique partnership between Ducks Unlimited, Missouri Department of Conservation, and Missourians who strive to restore waterfowl habitats on public lands in Missouri. This year’s print depicts a pair of Blue-Winged Teal flying over habitat in the Fountain Grove Conservation Area.
