How can I protect my shallow lake?
Conservation easements are one tool Ducks Unlimited uses to protect a shallow lake and its shoreline. A conservation easement is a legal agreement between a private landowner and DU. The agreement serves the landowner’s needs and restricts subdivision and development on the property in perpetuity.

Land protected from development by a conservation easement | Farm Bill programs like the Wetlands Reserve Program (WRP) also help DU biologists restore shallow lakes. Through WRP, DU teams up with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and private landowners to deliver permanent wetland restoration projects. DU biologists also provide habitat management advice to improve the available resources for waterfowl and other wildlife.
