Ouachita Wildlife Management Area
Waterfowl Impoundment Project

Purpose: To establish management capabilities on green-tree reservoirs and moist soil units, provide migrating and wintering waterfowl habitat, and increase hunting opportunities on 525 acres. Development of these sites involved renovating existing levees and installation of water control structures to maximize management efficiency. Development of the green-tree reservoir units was unique within itself. In the mid-1980s, these sites had been converted from agricultural production to bottomland hardwood forests. Ouachita WMA is managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to provide wintering waterfowl habitat, as well as increase recreational and educational opportunities for the public.

Location: Approximately 12 miles southeast of Monroe, LA (Ouachita Parish)

Acres Impacted: 525 acres

Habitat: Green-tree Reservoir
Moist-Soil Wetlands

Partners: Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries
Ducks Unlimited, Inc.
