Pomme de Terre WMA
Wetlands Restoration

Purpose: To restore 1,200 acres of wetlands habitat on Pomme de Terre WMA through installation of concrete spillways and gated culverts. Two waterfowl management units were designed that can be manipulated independently. A concrete spillway in each unit will permit water level maintenance at an optimum level for wintering waterfowl. This project will enhance moist-soil plant production and restore hydrology to forested wetlands. Pomme de Terre WMA is managed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to provide foraging habitat for waterfowl, as well as increase recreational and educational opportunities for the public.

Location: Approx. 4 miles east of Hamburg, LA (Avoyelles Parish)

Acres Impacted: 1,200 acres

Habitat Type: Moist-soil Wetlands
