Soda Lake WMA
Wetlands Enhancement Project

Purpose: To enhance approximately 800 acres of moist-soil habitat and semi-permanent wetlands on Soda Lake WMA through levee construction and installation of five water control structures. The project involved constructing ½ mile of new levee, reworking several existing levees and installing five water control structures. Three sub-impoundments were created to maximize water management capabilities, thus providing optimum habitat conditions for migrating waterfowl. The impoundments will be managed as seasonally flooded moist-soil habitat for wintering waterfowl and nesting wood ducks. This project provides valuable foraging habitat to migrating and wintering waterfowl along Twelve-Mile Bayou, primarily benefiting mallards, wood ducks, gadwall, green-winged teal, and American widgeon. The LDWF will manage the area to maintain high quality moist-soil wetlands for waterfowl.

Location: Approximately 15 miles northwest of Shreveport, LA (Caddo Parish)
