SLOUGHS WMA
Hardy Unit

Purpose: To restore 100 acres moist-soil wetlands on Sloughs WMA through construction of 13,000 linear feet of low head levee and installation of several water control structures. Surface acreage of shallow water habitats was subdivided into four distinct units; each was separated by contour levees. Installation of a pumping station was necessary to provide reliable flooding capabilities. The Hardy Unit serves as a waterfowl refuge and receives extensive use by a variety of waterfowl during fall migration and winter. The area is managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to provide quality wintering habitat for waterfowl.

Location: The project is located on Sloughs WMA in Henderson County approximately 3.5 miles west of Geneva, KY.

Acres Impacted: 100 acres

Habitat Types: Moist-soil Wetlands
