Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office

The Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office (GLARO), located in Ann Arbor, Mich. and established in 1998, provides comprehensive conservation solutions to help restore and protect diminishing wetlands in 18 states, from Wisconsin to Virginia and north to Maine.

Historic wetland loss, conversion of lands for development, water quality problems and an expanding human population are the greatest challenges that face this region. DU is dedicated to reversing the trends of wetland habitat losses, restoring and protecting habitats, educating conservation values and making the Great Lakes/Atlantic region a better place for breeding, migrating and wintering waterfowl.

DU has made significant accomplishments in the Great Lakes/Atlantic Region's four Ecosystem Initiative areas: the Atlantic Coast, Chesapeake Bay, Great Lakes and Upper Mississippi. These Ecosystem Initiatives are further deconstructed into Priority Areas. To read about these areas and why they were chosen as a focus for habitat conservation, please visit our Priority Areas page. DU already has conserved nearly 400,000 acres of habitat in the Great Lakes/Atlantic region.

The Great Lakes/Atlantic Regional Office diligently continues this work now, as it will for years to come, positively affecting waterfowl, wildlife and the quality of life for people. To learn more about GLARO's conservation projects in your state, please visit our Projects by State page.
