Protecting wetlands throughout the Mississippi watershed is vital to the Gulf Coast. Wetlands at the northernmost reaches need to be protected to help ensure that the waters of the Gulf are pollution free. Wetland loss also has been linked to increasing amounts of hurricane damage, specifically that of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
