Bayou Meto WMA
Halowell Reservoir

Purpose: To enhance 621 acres of moist-soil habitat on Bayou Meto WMA through construction of 2 cross-levees and installation of several water control structures. This work was necessary to improve moist-soil management capabilities and create more desirable water depths for feeding waterfowl. Ducks unlimited provided design and engineering services to develop construction plans for this project. Moist-soil habitat will complement existing bottomland hardwood habitats on Bayou Meto WMA, thus improving the attractiveness of the region to waterfowl. The project is managed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission to maintain wetland habitat for waterfowl, while providing high quality public hunting opportunities on surrounding lands.

Location: Approx. 25 miles southwest of Stuttgart, AR (Arkansas County)

Acres Impacted: 621 acres

Habitat Type: Moist-soil Wetlands

Partners: Arkansas Game and Fish Commission
Ducks Unlimited, Inc
