Wheeler NWR
Rockhouse Moist-Soil Units
Purpose: To restore 155 acres of moist-soil wetlands on Wheeler NWR through installation of one water control structure and construction of exterior levee. This compartment complements 2 other moist-soil units that were completed in 1988. The addition of this project provides greater flexibility in managing water levels throughout each impoundment. Managers will be able to dewater or re-flood moist-soil units independently. This project will retain water in fall and winter, thus providing valuable foraging habitat to migrating and wintering waterfowl near the Tennessee River and will be managed by the USFWS.
